Located in Liguria, in the old fishing village of Sori nestled along a quiet bay of the Golfo Paradiso, Villa Ponti has been boldly carved into the cliffs of the coast opposite Monte Portofino, in a private residential setting overlooking the sea. Like the prow of a great ship, its terrace seems to plough through the waters of the sea, offering the emotions of a 1960s cruise, the unforgettable years of the economic boom in which Italian design also changed the everyday life of families. Simple, clean lines and forms now prevail in the furnishings, as well as "psychedelic" motifs; a new style of which Gio Ponti, father of Italian industrial design, is the main creator and which we find here, with his signature, in the interior of the villa. The light blue of the sky and the dark blue of the sea, the geometric and infinitely combinable features like the contours of nature, these are the characteristics that mark the "Collezione Blu Pontiโ , which he conceived in the 1960s. From the large "prow" terrace, to the "bridge" terrace with the swimming pool where the colours and geometries of the majolica tiles, rigorously hand-crafted, continue without interruption up to the "cabins" of this imaginary cruise ship, elegantly and expertly furnished in retro style. A ship that will travel like your imagination, stopping whenever you wish for excursions to nearby Portofino and Santa Margherita, to the Cinque Terre and also, without a doubt, to Genoa, "La Superba". The road is asphalted up to the parking areas and there are 48 steps to go down to reach the entrance to the property.
Interior:
The property is developed on the lower level of a two-storey building (the first floor belongs to a different owner) and, from the parking area, it can be reached by going down 48 steps. The entrance leads to an open-plan area, with sitting room, dining area and kitchen, which communicates with a guest bathroom and a small laundry room. The sleeping area consists of a hallway, a double bedroom with a queen-size bed, and two double bedrooms (one with divisible bed) served by two bathrooms with shower
Park:
Villa Ponti is located within a private residential complex, with a steep common park overlooking the sea, in which the characteristic flora of Mediterranean scrub predominates. In the park, opposite the entrance, a steep flight of steps leads down to the cliff below. Two large panoramic terraces characterise the exterior of the villa: overlooking the sea they offer an enchanting view of Monte Portofino. The 100 sq m main terrace continues without interruption the internal flooring of blue and white majolica tiles autographed by Gio Ponti. The large terrace, illuminated with floor spotlights, is equipped with table and chairs, outdoor lounge, sunbeds and barbecue. An electronically-controlled awning shelters the table from the sun while lemon plants in large pots adorn the perimeter of the terrace that is completely surrounded by a protective railing. On the second, 50 sq m terrace, protected by a wall of bougainvillea, is the beautiful swimming pool with its particular pentagonal shape and the solarium with outdoor showerPlease notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.
Swimming Pool:
The beautiful pentagonal-shaped swimming pool, also fully lined with precious majolica tiles from the Gio Ponti collection, is located on the second, south-facing terrace with a beautiful view of the sea. Going up four artistic steps, you then plunge into the pool with a maximum depth of 150 cm in the centre, while around the perimeter it is only 50 cm deep, providing a comfortable seat to relax and enjoy the benefits of the hydromassage. The beautiful slate edge of up to 80 cm serves as a comfortable surface on which to lean. The internal lighting creates romantic nocturnal atmospheres. It is open from the last Satrurday of April to the first Saturday of October.
